American Space Corfu, hosted by the Public Central Historical Library of Corfu, was inaugurated in April 2005. Since then, in continuous cooperation with the Cultural Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, it has been organizing activities and events both within the Library and throughout the wider community of Corfu. American Spaces operate in six libraries across Greece and form an integral part of their host institutions.
Primarily literary works, as well as informational material in both print and electronic form about the United States of America, along with programs and events focusing on culture and education, constitute the offerings and function of an American Space.
American Spaces in Greece were established through the collaboration of the Cultural Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Athens and the following institutions: the Public Central Library of Veria, the Public Central Historical Library of Corfu, the Public Central Library of Sparta, the Municipal Library of Xanthi, the Municipal Library of Piraeus, as well as the educational organization EduAct in Thessaloniki.
For several years, the space operated as Corfu Tech Lab, but as of 2025 it has returned to its official name as American Space Corfu.

The primary function of an American Space is to provide information about the United States of America. An American Space may also consist solely of a collection of books in English on U.S.-related topics.
The book collection includes informational books, literary works, as well as publications related to the environment, the economy, and government documents.
American Spaces provide information about the U.S. through the Internet, videos, CDs, and CD-ROMs.
All American Spaces are staffed by personnel from their host institutions. Access is free and open to all citizens.
Staff at each American Space are proficient in English and have skills in organizing events. Currently, there are more than 400 American Spaces worldwide.
The Robotics Laboratory (Corfu Tech Lab), which was created with a grant from the Cultural Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy, is located on the 1st floor of the Library and includes a collection of books in English, educational robotics kits, a 3D printer, a laptop, and a desktop computer.
The Corfu Tech Lab provides visitors with completely free information about the United States of America and carries out a variety of educational programs and cultural events (book presentations, film screenings, exhibitions, and lectures). All activities and educational programs are announced on the laboratory’s official Facebook page.
The robotics equipment is intended for use by school groups, accompanied by a supervising teacher, who visit the Corfu Tech Lab to participate in scheduled educational programs.
A specific number of robotics kits may be made available for loan to IT teachers who are carrying out a designated educational activity at a Primary or Secondary School.
For the loan, the required Responsible Declaration for Receipt and Return of Robotics Educational Material must be signed. The material is loaned free of charge, for a specific period, provided it is not required for scheduled educational activities within the Library as part of the operation of the Corfu Tech Lab, with the sole obligation of submitting a sample of the work created using the borrowed materials.
Any loss or damage to the contents of the robotics kits is the responsibility of the teacher borrowing the materials.
Electronic equipment is to be used exclusively for conducting educational activities and is not intended for use by the general public.
