“A man should keep in the attic of his small mind those things that he is likely to use, and the rest he should throw into his library, from where he can retrieve them whenever needed.” — Arthur Conan Doyle (English author), 1859–1930
A library can serve in every local community as a “palace” whose wealth is limitless. A wealth, however, that is shared equally among all citizens of that community.
The Public Central Historical Library of Corfu, situated in an exceptional space within the Old Fortress, has for decades strived to pass on to the residents of Corfu—and to its numerous visitors—the wealth of knowledge it holds.
In this effort, significant problems have emerged, especially in recent years, which act as obstacles to the goals that each Library sets for itself in promoting the dissemination of knowledge.
Naturally, our Library, the Public Central Historical Library of Corfu, has not been immune to these challenges.
We therefore ask the community of Corfu, and of course any other citizen or organization, for your support so that we can achieve the Library’s goal: providing knowledge in the most complete and modern way possible.
Any donation, whether financial, material (equipment, maintenance), or in the form of books, is considered essential to achieving these goals.
